Founded in 1960 as an institute of Estonian Academy of Sciences, associated with Tallinn University of Technology in 1997.


AREAS OF RESEARCH

APPLIED MATHEMATICS. Approximation methods, inverse problems, stochastic programming.
MECHANICS. Nonlinear dynamics and wave propagation, non-destructive stress analysis (photoelasticity and acoustodiagnostics), cardiac dynamics.
COMPUTER SCIENCE. Mathematical foundations for computer science, mathematical logic and constructive mathematics, automated program synthesis, knowledge-based software engineering, specification and verification of real-time software, software systems.
CONTROL SYSTEMS. Conceptual analysis, nonlinear and robust control systems, control systems modeling.
LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY. Formal models for natural languages, Estonian phonetics, speech analysis and synthesis, speaker recognition.


STAFF

At the end of the year 2006 academic staff (55 persons) included 3 members of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, 7 DSc, 18 PhD, 18 candidates of sciences, and 18 MSc. Technical staff 41 persons.
