Continuous-Valued Cellular Automata for Simulation of Thermomechanical Processes

Background
The aim of the project is extension of cellular automata for the simulation of thermomechanical processes. In the base of the method lies an idea that each element of a continuum can be considered as a cell, state of which is determined as a point in Gibbsian state (phase) space. The offered algorithm is rather the tool for the direct simulation of a process than for the solution of partial differential equations.
Task Description
The research includes the elaboration of continuous cellular automata algorithms and application of formulated algorithms to simple examples. The list of problems includes
- linear elastic and thermoelastic waves propagation in homogeneous and layered solids in the one-dimensional case;
- non-linear one-dimensional heat conduction in regions of phase transitions in the case of water;
- unsteady heat conduction in a rectangular domain with a cut-out under a point-wise heating at a boundary;
- two-dimensional convection-diffusion process in a liquid.
