Estonian phonetics (Estonian prosody and sound system, L2 speech); Speech technology (speech synthesis, speech analysis, speech and speaker recognition, phonetic databases).

The Laboratory of Phonetics and Speech Technology was part of the Centre of Excellence in Computer Science, EXCS, one of the seven Estonian national centres of excellence in research 2008-2015 (five more centres were added for 2011-2015).

From 2016, the laboratory is part of the Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies, CEES, one of the nine new national centres of excellence in research 2016-2023.
